Work Injury Rehabilitation Services

Alternatives Consulting Psychologists provide adjustment counselling, Return-to-Work programs, Case Management, Medico-Legal Assessments and Reports for workers with a psychological injury.

Our rehabilitation programs are developed by qualified and registered psychologists and tailored to client needs. Alternatives Consulting Psychologists offers a range of rehabilitation services to assist workers with a psychological injury to adjust to lifestyle changes, handle chronic pain, manage anger, anxiety or depression stemming from work injuries.

Early Intervention Programs

It is not unusual for employees suffering a severe work-related injury to experience feelings of anxiety or depression after sustaining an injury. However, if these feelings continue over several weeks and affect an individual’s involvement in regular daily activities, social interactions or plans for returning to work, adjustment-to-injury counselling can help restore a positive attitude and increase motivation.

Early intervention programs assist employees with a psychological injury with:

  • adjusting to changes in life circumstances
  • managing pain
  • managing anger
  • managing psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks
  • Return to Work programs and activities

Assessment & Diagnosis

A psychological assessment is useful to determine if an individual has developed a diagnosable condition (DSM-IV-TR criteria) or is experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression which block progress.

A psychological assessment is useful for:

  • developing an appropriate treatment plan
  • determining treatment goals and number of sessions required
  • establishing treatment time frames
  • developing a “future focus”

Return to Work Programs

Sometimes individuals are unable to return to their previous employment following an accident or injury, and need to consider alternative employment options.

A vocational assessment assists with:

  • determining transferable skills and capabilities
  • identifying limitations / constraints
  • identifying realistic employment options
  • developing an action plan for achieving employment goals
  • setting up and monitoring Return to Work programs
